Nature’s lesson about flow instead of resistance…

When we’re attuned to Nature with awareness, we notice the natural cycles of life as they unfold.

The moon, the sun, the plants, the animals… they all speak to us and notify us of change.

When we know the nuances of different environments, we can even tell when seasons are transitioning to another, regardless what month the calendar might say.

Nature is ever-changing and doesn’t follow the linear time that humans have created.

It simply goes through its cycles and every year and season is unique. None repeat.

Thunderbird Falls

I always find it interesting when I hear people talk about the weather and seasons and make comparisons with previous years or conditions, as if surprised that things aren’t the way they think they should be.

Our life spans are so short compared with the cycles of Nature, that have been ongoing for millions of years and have undergone many extreme changes over that period of time.

Having a relationship with Nature is the best way to make the most of every year, every season, every moon cycle. It attunes us with our own rhythms and reminds us that we’re not separate, but part of the greater whole.

We also notice that we affect each other on multiple levels. We’re just as much affected by Nature as it is by us.

People who spend time outdoors on a regular basis, either through work or leisure, naturally notice these changes and relationships.

I love spending time with Nature. If I have a few days without doing so, I feel it in all ways.

Since I’ve spent regular time in Nature for decades, I sense the transitioning of the seasons even if it might not be obvious to others. Some people might not even want to acknowledge the changes, being so dependent on the calendar and feeling that it’s not time yet for a transition!

Nature’s cycle will unfold regardless.

Summer is advancing here in Alaska and signs of Autumn are beginning to appear. The growing season here is intensified with continuous daylight, but is also shorter than places further south. The photo is of Thunderbird Falls nestled in a forest and ravine.

Many bird species have begun to flock together and fly in a restless manner, getting ready for their southern migrations.

The air in the forest trails has a light pungent scent that I recognize as being from ripened berries that have fallen to the ground and are fermenting with leaf litter.

The leaves on certain plants are starting to change to golden colours.

Many of the blossoming plants now have fuzz replacing their flowers, as they release their mature seeds into the wind to propagate in other locations.

At the moment these changes are subtle, but they’re definitely present.

Opening our awareness and senses to the rhythms of Nature enriches our lives. It enables us to go through the transitions of the seasons and our own lives with more ease and grace. Instead of resisting it, we allow the natural flow of it.

What transition might your life be inviting you to embrace at this time that you might be resisting?
