A courageous little bird brought me to tears today…
After leisurely enjoying the sights, sounds, aromas and textures of Pu’uhonua O Honaunau, I felt guided to spend some quiet time at the picnic area a short walk away by the ocean…
Amazingly, for a Friday late afternoon and evening, the space was vacant! It felt like such a sacred space between two giant trees overlooking lava stones and the endless ocean!…
Then I knew I was right where I was supposed to be when a beautiful Monarch butterfly appeared and glided around me a while before perching up high in one of the trees!.. then as I kicked off my flip flops I noticed a thorny seed underneath one, stuck through the bottom with a feather gift!
It was so peaceful and amazing… every now and again, birds of all colours and sizes visited.
Then one particular small bird (the one featured on today’s photo) flew near me when all the others were gone. I noticed it hopping around, balancing on only one leg, looking for food… as it got closer and eyed me shyly and inquisitively, I noticed it only had one leg (the other one looked cut or bitten off) and the foot it was awkwardly hopping on only had one complete toe! Every now and again it flopped on its belly or sideways, but got right back up and continued hopping, never giving up.
I was so moved by this little bird’s courageous determination, I was overwhelmed with love for it. I had brought some organic soft corn tortillas with me and so I lovingly tore off tiny little pieces and threw them in its direction which it eagerly ate. Then when it was satisfied, it looked at me with such beautiful eyes, and flew away…
It was a very touching soul-to-soul, heart-to-heart connection… ♥
With love and wonder-filled spirit,
birds of a feather 🙂
