Mother Earth, our celestial HOME…
Tomorrow, April 22nd is known officially as “Earth Day”.
It’s a beautiful gesture to take the time to pause and celebrate our magnificent home in the solar system and universe for one day.
I feel that if every day we took the time to appreciate our planet for all that she provides for us daily, which “Earth Day” brings into our awareness, things would be different in our world, in a good way.
People who are more mindful of their roles as stewards in relationship with Earth and all other inhabitants of the natural world, make decisions that are beneficial for many, and that cause beneficial ripple effects for years to come.
For example, the simple act of planting a single tree being, especially a species that is native to the local ecosystem, is more than just adding a tree into an empty spot of land. Depending on the species, it will become an entire ecosystem of its own. It will provide food for wildlife and people in the form of sap, fruit, nuts, seeds, leaves, nectar, or insects. It will provide shade and shelter with its roots, trunk, bark, branches and leaves. It will prevent the soil from eroding with its roots throughout the soil. It will provide oxygen through its leaves. Trees also provide companionship and other gifts that are not as obvious.
I’m featuring a photo I took in Sedona, Arizona in 2012, of a beautiful prickly pear cactus with a heart-shaped leaf. We really have such a glorious home with an impressive variety of precious ecosystems and life forms.
I wish you a wonderful Earth Day tomorrow, and however you choose to celebrate it, may every day be a celebration of how fortunate we are to live here… ♥
