Wildlife’s incredible hardiness…
In central Canada, we’re experiencing the second coldest winter in 120 years…! I certainly believe it, from the absolutely freezing cold temperatures that have lingered for over a month now… For example, -31 C (with the wind it feels like -41 C).
What truly amazes me is that regardless of this deep freeze, I still have the pleasure of seeing Ravens, Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Chickadees and Redpolls (like the one in the photo) flying and calling through the forest and in the sky…
I have to wear so many layers just so I don’t freeze during my Nature hikes and these wonderful feathered beings seem so joyful, going about their daily routines, as active as ever. Obviously their plumage is a divinely created insulator that keeps them warm and leaves me in awe…
With all the song birds south for another 3 months (unless it’s an early spring), I’m so grateful to these hardy bird species that stay here year-round… Seeing them every day adds joyful life to the stillness of this season… ♥
