♥ Miracle of the Day ♥

Purposeful life and death…

The cycles of life are so obvious in Nature and change is a daily occurrence. It’s obvious in natural environments that nothing exists without purpose…

Even death has great purpose…

During one of many glorious hikes at over 6,000 feet in elevation in Yosemite Nat’l Park, a constant drumming sound echoed throughout the forest… Looking way up at this dead tree, I discovered the drummer – a pileated woodpecker, perched near the top, carving a circular hole in the long trunk! (close-up photo inserted on photo of the tree)

This tree had a purposeful life as all trees do, each in their own way… and now in death, it still provides… Food for birds that can find the insects burrowed in its bark, or homes for woodpeckers that can carve holes in its incredibly tall body. Small mammals like squirrels or other birds can also use the holes created by woodpeckers, as shelter.

Even in death, this tree is a dynamic part of its ecosystem, as it still towers proudly in the forest!… ♥
